What to bring to your consultation
To make the most of 30 minutes, have ready (as applicable):
- A summary of how you own your home — co-op shares, a condo deed, or joint ownership;
- A rough list of accounts and beneficiary designations (retirement, life insurance, bank/brokerage);
- Any existing will, trust, or power of attorney;
- A sense of your total estate value (to gauge NY estate-tax cliff exposure);
- For probate matters: the death certificate, the original will, and the names of close relatives (distributees).

Getting to the Surrogate’s Court
If your matter requires a filing, the New York County Surrogate’s Court is at 31 Chambers Street, near Foley Square and City Hall in Lower Manhattan — accessible by the subway lines serving the Chambers Street / Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall area. The Help Center is in Room 302. This is informational; you do not need to visit the court to begin with us.
